The genesis of Fear Disease dates back to 2014 in Meeuwen, Belgium, when brothers Hans (rhythm guitar & vocals) and Mathias Paesen (drums) began jamming together, primarily covering Sepultura songs. Their collaboration soon evolved into creating original material, leading to the independent release of their first self-made demo, "Harbinger of Tempest," in 2017.
By this time, the band had solidified their lineup under the name Limbo, with Jonas Parren joining on lead guitar and Cas Hegge on bass. They relocated their base to Bocholt, Belgium, and began playing numerous shows across their home country, as well as in the Netherlands and Germany. Their exposure grew when they were featured on a radio show based in Las Vegas, attracting the attention of several record labels.
In 2018, producer Jonathan Mazzeo from The Grid Europe discovered the band online, recognizing their potential. He connected them with Wormholedeath, which signed them soon afterward. With Jonas and Cas now integral to the creative process, the band's sound expanded beyond thrash and old-school death metal to incorporate elements of groove metal, metalcore, and black metal.
However, the name Limbo was already in use, prompting a change to Fear Disease, inspired by a song title from their 2017 demo. The name reflects the parallel between living in a state of fear and the actual fear of contracting a disease. Ironically, the COVID-19 pandemic soon after delayed their studio plans multiple times.
Finally, in August 2021, the band traveled to Pistoia, Italy, to record their debut album, "Floodgates," slated for release in 2022. Fear Disease continues to push the boundaries of their genre, blending diverse metal influences into their unique sound.
